Andrea Doucet is Brock's newest Canada Research Chair.

Brock’s newest Canada Research Chair, Andrea Doucet, is an internationally recognized expert in caregiving and work-life balance.

Doucet, a professor in Sociology and Women’s Studies, was announced today as Brock’s 13th Canada Research Chair. The news was part of a national announcement identifying today’s brightest research stars across the nation.

As Canada Research Chair in Gender, Work and Care, Doucet will address the challenges faced by modern families, including the inequalities still present in the way women and men are compensated for their work, and perceptions around how they care for their families. Her work will affect policy and community measures in Canada, and in other western countries.

Doucet comes to Brock from Carleton University, where she was a professor of sociology. She wrote the award-winning book Do Men Mother? and is the editor of the international academic journal Fathering. She is currently completing a book on bread-winning mothers and caregiving fathers.

“We are thrilled to have Professer Doucet joining our faculty,” said Thomas Dunk, Dean of Social Sciences. “Her extensive research record and deep experience, along with her passion for her field, further bolsters our recognized educational and research strengths in social justice issues and community engagement.”

Today’s announcement, made by Gary Goodyear, Minister of State (Science and Technology), included 253 new or renewed Canada Research Chairs at 56 institutions across Canada, with a total award investment of $204 million. This federal investment attracts and retains some of the world’s most accomplished and promising researchers, allowing Canadian institutions to strengthen their position as global research leaders in research and development.
