Thomas S. C. Farrell, a professor of Applied Linguistics, will write a section of a handbook that will be used by instructors in language programs across the province.
Farrell has been invited to write the component section of the Reflective Practice Booklet in the Practitioner Handbook for the Toronto Catholic District School Board’s Adult Education Program. The program has been funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada, and will develop and implement a framework for supporting the professional development of English as a Second Language (ESL) instructors in programs across Ontario.
The booklet will eventually be distributed for free to agencies funded by the federal government’s Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada and provincially funded adult ESL programs.
Farrell was invited to contribute for his “leadership and expertise in reflective practice with teachers of adult English language learners, paired with your accessible, engaging style,” the invitation letter said.
The project is set to be launched in 2012.
