Applied Linguistics

David Hayes was in Hanoi, Vietnam, from April 11 to 27 at the invitation of the Vietnamese National Institute for Educational Sciences where he co-ordinated the development of a new national curriculum for the teaching of English in lower secondary schools. The curriculum will be progressively used in all of Vietnam’s 9,900 lower secondary schools, which provide education to some 5.5 million students.

While in the region, Hayes also presented a paper “‘Whose story is it anyway?’ Authorship and Ethics in the Narrative Study of Teachers’ Lives” at the conference “Doing Research in Applied Linguistics” organized by King Mongkut’s University of Technology, Thailand, and Macquarie University, Australia, in Bangkok on April 21 and 22.
