Three questions with… Kristen Smith

Kristen Smith

Kristen Smith is manager of Student and Community Outreach in Student Life and Community Experience. As of May, she has worked full-time at Brock for 13 years.  She started her career in Conference Services in 1998.  As a student, she worked as a lifeguard in the Department of Residences and at the Campus Store. She owns “a cute little brick home” in Thorold. Her sister, Kara, also went to Brock.

What do you like about your job?

I love all of the great people I get to work with, whether they are students, staff, faculty or community members. I get to interact with some really wonderful and passionate people.  I really appreciate the variety in my work and the freedom to make good things happen, both on campus and in the community. I am energized and inspired by the students I work with.

What do you do for fun?

I love to learn and experience new things. I have recently completed Spanish classes in preparation for a trip to Peru with Brock students this spring.  I enjoy cooking and I am happiest near water – whether it is a day at the beach or in my kayak.

Where did you go on your last vacation?

Although not a vacation, last May I had the opportunity to travel with Brock students to Namibia in southern Africa.  It truly was a life changing experience for me. I was so touched by the hospitality and resilience of everyone that we met, including some pretty amazing children.  It is a beautiful country and I hope to return in the future.
