Students will present their research in areas like sport, tourism and health studies at an annual colloquium at Brock this weekend.

The full-day Student Research Colloquium on Saturday, April 9 will include a keynote address and oral and poster presentations from more than 30 presenters. In addition to Brock students, presenters will be from universities such as Windsor, Waterloo and Concordia.

“We have recognized a growing number of undergraduate and graduate students within our related disciplines who have strong research interests and abilities,” said Julie Stevens, associate professor of Sport Management and organizing chair. “We also realize that serving the needs of these students is critical for the successful growth of our field.”

John Cawley, program manager for the J. W. McConnell Family Foundation, will present the keynote speech. The foundation funds a number of youth, art, sport and community programs that encourage people to have “a sense of belonging and contribute as active citizens to improving the wellbeing of all,” the foundation’s website says.

Cawley has 25 years of experience in the non-profit sector. His keynote will examine lessons from the foundation’s work on social innovation, and exploring the skills and values people need to thrive in a rapidly changing environment.

The colloquium will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Sankey Chamber.
