Brock’s Welch Hall has received a 2010 Niagara Community Design Award for best Urban Design and Architecture.

The project received honourable mention in the Larger Scale Project category at a Jan. 26 ceremony at the Four Points Sheraton. The nominees were Scott Roper and Scott Walker from Brock with Donald Schmitt and Birgit Siber from Diamond and Schmitt Architects.

“This project has given the campus a uniquely refined and dynamic design within a relatively small volume on a small site,” said Roper, Facilities Management project manager.

“The building has rehabilitated a sore spot on our campus and made an important contribution to our streetscape, accessibility, and the portal entrance to buildings beyond. It has also created a unique courtyard on a campus of courtyards and improved the landscape in front of South Block to the west simply by its presence as a backdrop.”
