Students returning to school this week are being greeted by five days of Frost Week activities.

The annual event, organized by the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU), is known this year as Frost Week 2011: Ice Ice Baby.

Activities range from a euchre tournament to handing out free birthday cake to celebrate BUSU’s 40th anniversary.

“It’s an opportunity for students to find out what services are available to them this semester and to get people back in the groove,” said Curtis Bell, BUSU special events and Isaac’s Army co-ordinator. “We want to get everyone involved as much as possible.”

Here’s a list of events this week:

Monday, Jan. 10
BUSU staff and volunteers are handing out free hot chocolate and BUSU toques at six locations around campus.

Tuesday, Jan. 11
BUSU will give out free birthday cake across campus. At 9 p.m., BUSU will host the Silent Headphone Disco Stoplight Party at Isaac’s Bar and Grill. This is an all ages event where students will dance while listening to two different DJs on wireless headphones. The Campus Store is sponsoring the event.

Wednesday, Jan. 12
Local and national companies will showcase their products and services during the Frost Week Vendor and Club Fair at Isaac’s. At 1 p.m., Union Station will host its first burger-eating contest where teams of four will take on a homemade five-pound burger. Volunteers will also scrape windows on campus and accept donations for the Alzheimer Society. There will also be music trivia and karaoke at 9 p.m. at Isaac’s following men’s and women’s basketball games.

Thursday, Jan. 13
There will be a Condom Poker Casino Night at the Ian Beddis Gym. BUSU will hand out more than $1,000 in prizes and crown a poker champion.

Friday, Jan. 14
BUSU will host its second annual Euchre Tournament at the Skybar Lounge starting at 12 noon. Students can sign up as a team or as individuals at busu.net/frost. At 5 p.m., the Brock Off-Campus Society will take students to the TD Rink at the Brink in Niagara Falls. The event will be $3 for members or $8 for non-members. Skate rentals are available. BUSU will also take students to the men’s hockey game at the Seymour Hannah arena at 7 p.m. Tickets are $5. The after party will be a Yuk Yuk’s Comedy Night at Isaac’s.
