The names of 200 children in need of Christmas gifts are waiting to be plucked from a tree at Brock’s Campus Store.

The store is part of the Adopt an Angel Program, a charitable effort through Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold. The names of boys and girls in need are placed on the holiday tree just inside the Campus Store entrance. Those interested in participating can take a paper mitten displaying the name and age of a child. That person then returns with unwrapped new gifts.

This is the 10th year the Campus Store has participated. Students and employees are encouraged to take names. With this campaign, donors are helping children in Niagara, said Brian Kroeker, the store’s communications, marketing and public relations co-ordinator.

“With charities like this, people know they’re helping out in their own backyard.”

Donors can grab a name during regular Campus Store hours. The deadline for dropping off gifts is Wednesday, Dec. 15.

Student Life and Community Experience also has its annual Holiday Giving Tree in the lobby of the Schmon Tower. Brock community members are asked to help decorate the tree with items such as:

• non-perishable food
• mittens
• hats and coats
• scarves and any other winter wear (socks, ear muffs, etc.)
• toys and Canadian Tire money

Bring all items to the Schmon Tower Welcome Desk. The items will be donated to Community Care. The tree will be in the tower lobby from Dec. 1 to 21.
