Workers are constructing the bridge leading to the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Complex.

Starting this morning, construction crews are erecting the bridge that connects the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Complex with the rest of the university.

Crews have started work on the bridge that connects the new building to the D block of the Mackenzie Chown D complex. Workers will complete the structure of the bridge in about three working days. The exterior curtain wall and roofing will continue until mid January, project manager David Main said.

Work on the complex continues with a target completion date of early 2012. Workers have just completed the concrete structure of the $111-million complex. Roofing started a week ago and should be completed in two or three weeks, Main said.

Work on the exterior glass curtain wall will begin in early December and continue until the end of March or early April. Workers are also progressing with the electric and mechanical work, which started in the spring.

The complex is 169,000 square feet.
