More than 780 students will receive their degrees at Brock’s 2010 Fall Convocation.
The morning and afternoon ceremonies will proceed as follows:
Saturday, Oct. 16, 10 a.m.
- Graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates from the Faculties of Applied Health Sciences, Business, Graduate Studies, Humanities, and Mathematics and Science will be conferred.
- Anthony C. Hearn will be presented with an honorary degree for his outstanding scholarly contributions to the field of computer algebra. The impact of his work has had a significant international impact on research in fundamental areas of mathematics, computer science and theoretical physics. He will also address Convocation.
- Brent Faught, associate professor of epidemiology, Department of Community Health Sciences, will receive the Brock University Award for Distinguished Teaching.
- Two Governor General’s Silver Medals, which are awarded to the students who achieve the highest academic standing at the undergraduate level, will be presented to Bailey Gresham (Arnprior, Ont.), Kinesiology and Physical Education, and Norman Johnston (St. Catharines, Ont.), Accounting.
Saturday, Oct. 16, 2 p.m.
- Graduate and undergraduate degrees and certificates from the Faculties of Education, Graduate Studies and Social Sciences will be conferred.
- Dorothy Griffiths, associate dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, and professor, Child and Youth Studies, will be presented with the Brock University Award for Distinguished Research and Creative Activity. She will also address Convocation.
- The graduate Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock Medal will be presented to Colin Perrier (Crow Head, N.L.), Psychology.
- The undergraduate Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock Medal will be presented to Audra Sewell Maloney (Fort Erie, Ont.), Aboriginal Adult Education.
- The ceremonies will be held in the Ian D. Beddis Gymnasium and a reception for graduates, family members and other guests will be held after each ceremony. Tickets are not required. All guests are welcome.
