Brief power interruptions will be felt on campus during the Thanksgiving weekend as local utility crews work to update the university’s electrical infrastructure.
The main power supply line is expected to be transferred at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9, so workers from Horizon Utilities can upgrade switches, poles and conductors.
Service is scheduled be moved back to the main line at 7:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 11.
During this time, power to the main campus will be sustained by using a new alternate feed. However, short interruptions of about five seconds will be experienced when power is transferred to the alternate power lines at the start of the project, and reinstated to the main line on Monday morning.
In the event of a power failure at Horizon Utilities during the operation, longer interruptions could be experienced as Brock’s co-gen plant will be shut down during this project. However, emergency power systems would still be fully functional in the event of an unplanned interruption.
