The announcement was made today by Brock’s Vice-President Academic, Murray Knuttila, who said MacLean will fill the position for the period of Sept. 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011 while a search is undertaken to find a permanent replacement.

“We are extremely pleased that Dr. MacLean has agreed to take on this important role,” Knuttila said. “The university is fortunate to have someone of Joanne’s experience and capabilities to step into this situation, and she will have the Brock community’s support as she undertakes this leadership position.”

MacLean said she looks forward to working with her colleagues to continue pursuing the Faculty’s goals and priorities.

“I am very pleased to serve the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences,” MacLean said this morning. “I’m looking forward to working with faculty, staff, and students in celebrating our successes and addressing the challenges of the year ahead.”

MacLean has established a reputation during her 25-year career as a leading university teacher, researcher, administrator and athletics coach. She has written or co-authored 19 articles in refereed journals, authored three books and contributed chapters to several others, and has given more than 40 conference presentations and invited addresses. She is a member of a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council-funded research team investigating community sport organization networks.

MacLean (BPE University of New Brunswick, 1982; MPE UNB, 1984; PhD Ohio State University, 1992) is recognized for her research in the areas of human resources and performance management, intercollegiate athletics and Canada’s sport system.

Besides being Brock’s Sport Management chair since 2007, MacLean held several senior positions during her career at the University of Windsor (1985-2002), including director of Athletics. As Chef de Mission of Team Canada, she led over 200 team members to the 2003 World University Games in Korea, and as head coach of women’s basketball at Windsor, she was a three-time Ontario coach of the year.
