President’s golf tournament raises funds for athletic student awards

Golfers joined Brock President Jack Lightstone at Legends on the Niagara in Niagara Falls on May 27 for the eighth annual President’s Tournament in support of Brock Athletics.

This year’s tournament, led once again by David Howes, chair of the President’s Tournament and immediate past chair of the Brock Board of Trustees, raised $75,000 for the university’s athletic student awards program.

“This is a special event that allows our local partners to help our student athletes succeed at a greater level,” Howes said.

Brock’s athletes have won 28 national and 52 provincial championships since 1967.

“The proceeds from the tournament provide bursaries and scholarships for our student athletes, many of whom must use their own money to help cover their teams’ costs of training camps, equipment and other expenses,” Lightstone said. “Athletes who benefit from these awards maintain a high academic standing, all the while juggling athletics, studies and part-time jobs.”
