Mariek Schmidt, assistant professor of Earth Sciences, was quoted in the article “Volcano eruptions in Iceland could last for years” in the April 15 issue of the Toronto Star. “Ash has a shorter resonance time in the atmosphere,” Schmidt said in the article. “The sulphur dioxide will rate with water creating sulphuric acid that stays in the atmosphere.”
