On Tuesday, April 6, the Department of Music’s University Wind Ensemble will present a concert of musical fireworks, from Rimsky-Korsakov to John Williams, in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre at 7:30 p.m.
Under the direction of conductor Zoltan Kalman, the Ensemble is comprised of 55 musicians drawn from Brock students, high school students, and members of Niagara’s musical community, including the Niagara and Hamilton Symphonies.
The evening’s program, entitled “That’s Entertainment”, features masterworks of the past and present including Sheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov; Symphonic Songs by Robert Russell Bennett; Les Miserables by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg, featuring Vanessa Vella, soprano; I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin’ by George Gershwin, featuring April Curran, soprano; and John Williams’ Star Wars.
Performances like this by the Department of Music are an essential part of the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts’ mandate to build connections between the community and the breadth of talent and creativity at the University.
