It was a mosaic of food, music and languages at the Celebration of Nations on Wednesday.

Representatives from about 40 nations offered samples of their culture and cuisine at the seventh annual event, held in Pond Inlet by the Office of International Services.

The event was filled with music and traditional dance from nations such as Bangladesh, Iran, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. Attended by faculty, staff and students, the celebration is an opportunity to learn about other cultures, said John Kaethler, director of International Services.

“It’s another way of introducing Canadians to international students,” he said.

Students are given modest financial assistance to stock their booths with food and an attractive display. There has been talk of charging an admission fee, Kaethler said, but “we want to keep it open to as many people as possible.”

The event was sponsored by International Services, Brock International, International Recruitment, the Associate Vice-President of Student Services, English as a Second Language Services and the Office of Human Rights.
