“Larger than life” musician plays at Brock

Matt Andersen

New Brunswick musician Matt Andersen plays the Centre for the Arts this week.

A musician billed as “larger than life” will perform at the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre this week.

Matt Andersen of New Brunswick plays a hybrid of blues, roots and rock and roll. His visit to Brock follows on the heels of an acoustic solo/duo award at the Blues Foundation’s annual International Blues Challenge in Memphis in January.

Andersen will play 25 theatre concerts in Ontario, British Columbia and Saskatchewan this year. For his Brock appearance, he’ll share the stage with Wil, a Calgary guitarist, singer and songwriter.

Andersen plays an average of 200 to 250 tour shows each year. Having opened for the likes of Randy Bachman, Bo Diddley and Little Feat, as well as touring with CBC Radio’s Stuart McLean, he is now a headliner himself.

Andersen has released an introductory EP, two live releases, the full-length release Second Time Around and a studio album, Something in Between. His most recent release, Piggyback, is a series of duo performances with harmonica player Mike Stevens.

Tickets to Andersen’s March 11 show are $39, or $20 for university/college students and $5 for high school students.
