Have kids, will travel

summer

Two young mothers hit the road with a van full of toys and kids in the upcoming Centre for the Arts play Summer of My Amazing Luck.

Winner of the 2005 Sterling Award for outstanding new play, Summer of My Amazing Luck will show at the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 p.m. It will be performed by Shameless Hussy Productions.

The play is based on the debut novel of Miriam Toews, who won a Governor General Award for her work. The story involves the misfortune of Lucy, who has lost her mother and is now pregnant. She’s in Have-A-Life welfare housing for single mothers until she and friend Lish load the kids into a beat-up van for a luck-changing journey.

Established in 1992, Shameless Hussy Productions is a British Columbian company of self-producing theatre artists with a mission to tell provocative and inspiring stories about women. The Brock performance is directed by Stephane Kirkland and starring Renee Iaci, Daune Campbell and Thomas Jones.

Tickets for Summer of My Amazing Luck are $39, or $20 for post-secondary students and $5 for high school students. All ticket holders are invited to attend a post-show artist chat with Shameless Hussy company members, moderated by Pablo-Felices Luna, artistic director of the Carousel Players.
