Performance will teach about workplace violence

A performance in Pond Inlet tomorrow will teach people about workplace violence and how to prevent it.

Mirror Theatre will present “dis”Positions, a number of challenging scenes meant to explore issues of power and privilege in the workplace. The theatrical presentation is directed and facilitated by Dramatic Arts professor Joe Norris and will be performed by Brock staff and students.

With new legislation around workplace violence, it is a topical subject, said Val Wolfe, manager of Health and Safety. The performance will deal with power and privilege and how it impacts other people’s perceptions.

“The goal is to raise awareness of workplace violence in a new and different way,” she said.

The event starts at 8:30 with registration and a light breakfast. The live performance is at 9 a.m., followed by discussion and audience interaction. It will close at 11:15 with a brief workplace violence prevention policy review.

Norris is the author of Playbuilding as qualitative research: A participatory arts-based approach, which was released last year. The book just received the Outstanding Book Award of the American Educational Research Association.

Spots are still available. For more information and to register, check out brocku.ca/calendar-events/15760
