Random Acts of Kindness Day returns Friday, Nov. 1.

It’s cool to be kind.

And your chance to be both happens Friday when Random Act of Kindness Day returns.

The annual homage to doing good deeds without being asked will feature Boomer handing out candy in the Schmon Tower lobby to kickstart the morning for faculty, staff and students.

Later, Brock volunteers will also rake leaves in the Marsdale neighbourhood from noon to 3 p.m.

Ever wanted to say thank you to someone for a good deed but never got around to it? Friday’s your day to show some gratitude by visiting a campus cafeteria where the Department of Residences will have tables set up to make thank you cards.

And if that isn’t enough kindness, Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) is planning a whole week dedicated to performing good deeds for others.

To help inspire students be kind, information will be posted throughout campus with suggestions of kind acts. The hope is a full week of unexpected goodwill will “improve the social climate on campus,” Ibrahim Qureshi, BUSU’s community involvement co-ordinator, said in an email.

Random Act of Kindness Day is a global celebration spearheaded by local organizations to encourage kind acts toward others.

Locally, the Niagara Community Foundation is leading the initiative, reinforcing its vision of building a better community by encouraging a pay it forward philosophy of doing something for someone else without expecting anything in return.

Brock staff and faculty are welcome to share the random acts of kindness they experience by emailing the Niagara Community Foundation rak@niagaracommunityfoundation.org or on twitter @RAKDayNiagara with the hashtag #rakday.
