Library hires copyright co-ordinator and legal advisor

Chabriol Colebatch has been appointed to the position of copyright co-ordinator/legal advisor for a one-year period, effective Jan. 23, 2012.

Colebatch originally practiced law in Australia, specializing in copyright, trade-mark and privacy law. She has worked as the copyright officer for the C4, a consortium of six Ontario university technology transfer offices. She also served as McMaster University’s lead contact for Access Copyright.

She was recently called to the Ontario Bar and worked as in-house legal counsel at Toronto Community Housing Corporation.

Colebatch will be based in the Library, and will report jointly to the director of the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Educational Technologies and the University Librarian. She will play a leadership role in copyright education, and will provide the University with legal advice on matters related to copyright.
