Niagara Prosperity Initiative Evaluation and Report

From January 2018 to December 2020, Brock University partnered with the Niagara Region to evaluate the implementation and impact of the Niagara Prosperity Initiative (NPI), a poverty reduction strategy that provides funding of $1.5M annually towards place-based projects. Focusing on reducing poverty rates of vulnerable populations, the NPI has touched the lives of over 100,000 people living in poverty in Niagara since 2008. Prior to this evaluation project, NPI’s priority has been to provide funding to projects and there had not been an overall evaluation of NPI’s implementation and impacts. The goal of a thorough evaluation was to provide the Niagara Region with information on best practices, recommendations that allow for continued investment towards breaking the cycle of poverty, and literature to inform and guide the development of other poverty reduction initiatives across Canada.
