Meet the team behind the 2023 EHQI Conference! This conference is mainly student-led by Brock University students who are passionate about quality improvement. They have been working hard for almost a year to organize an interesting, interactive and informative conference.
Dr. Madelyn Law
Dr. Madelyn Law is an Associate Professor in the Department of Health Sciences. Dr. Law is also the founder and Director of the Interprofessional Education for Quality Improvement Program (I-EQUIP). Through this program, Dr. Law has mentored over 200 students and health professionals on 65 improvement projects across the Niagara Region. Through her research and teaching, Dr. Law has mentored many students who have gone on to graduate programs in health services research or health professional degrees.
Christina Grimo
Christina Grimo is the Conference Coordinator for the Brock University Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She has been a part of the IHI chapter since 2021 and was a volunteer for the 2022 EHQI Conference. Christina is in her third year of the HBSc in Medical Sciences as well as her third year of the Med Plus program.
Evelin Melekh
Evelin Melekh is the President for the Brock University Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. She is in her fourth year of the HBSc in Medical Sciences at Brock University, and she is hoping to pursue a career in medicine. Alongside this, she is also involved in the Med Plus Program and Brock Leaders Citizenship Society. This is Evelin’s third year with the IHI chapter, she has been involved in multiple QI research projects and she was last year’s EHQI Conference Coordinator.
Sophia Nikitin
Sophia Nikitin is the Vice President for the Brock University Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and the head of the social media team for the 2023 EHQI Conference. She is in her fourth year of her BSc Kinesiology degree, and she is looking to pursue research in biomechanics and ergonomics. This is Sophia’s 2nd year with the IHI chapter, and she volunteered at the 2022 EHQI Conference. She is currently involved with ergonomics and QI research. At Brock, she is a member of the varsity tennis team, is part of the Med Plus Program, and played in the string ensemble.
Alison Smoke
Alison Smoke is the Advisor for the Brock University Chapter of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and the head of the design team for the 2023 EHQI Conference. She has been an active member of the club for three years, acting as a general member, event and project coordinator and the Vice-President in past years. She is her first year of MA in Applied Health Sciences at Brock University and is passionate about the social determinants of health, and their impact on members of society. Alison is hoping to pursue a career in public health, with an emphasis on quality improvement.
