High school students immersed in political science, labour studies

Brock welcomed more than 300 local high school students on Wednesday, May 3 for the inaugural Political Science and Labour Studies Day. Students from Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School, Eden High School, St. Francis Catholic Secondary School and Notre Dame College School started their day off with lectures on political science and labour studies, entitled, “Canada and the Globe: Finding Our Path in a Whole New World” and “Knowing Your Rights at Work: Workplace Rights for Young Workers in Ontario." Students then broke out into smaller seminar groups to discuss and engage with the lecture content; a system that is identical to what they would experience as a student at Brock University. "We're looking to give students a sense of what some important current events mean for their lives, and also provide them with some guides to help them think about, and respond to, the rapidly changing world around them," says Political Science Assistant Professor Stefan Dolgert.
