An interest in true crime, the desire to get into the minds of psychopaths and the opportunity to learn about how to better avoid becoming a victim were just a handful of reasons for the positive turnout at “Understanding Psychopathy: Personality, victim selection and prevention.” The free, public talk, held in the Sean O’Sullivan Theatre on Thursday, Feb. 20, was led by Angela Book, Professor in Brock University’s Department of Psychology, and Beth Visser (BA ’03, MA ’06, PhD ’11), Associate Professor at Lakehead University. The pair discussed their research on psychopathy and victim selection, which involved studying violent inmates at the Kingston Penitentiary, and ended with an engaging Q&A session.
