Lisa Myers (left), curator of Carry Forward, chats with Rodman Hall Art Centre’s Marcie Bronson, at the exhibition's opening last week. Carry Forward explores the complex history of documentation. Featuring Indigenous artists, the works include textiles, videos, paintings and sculptures, as well as reproductions of historical documents, that question power relations and the colonial gaze. Carry Forward is organized and circulated by the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery and features work by Maria Theresa Alves, Marjorie Beaucage, Deanna Bowen, Dana Clayton, Brenda Draney, John Hampton, Jamelie Hassan, Mike MacDonald, Nadia Mayer, Krista Belle Stewart and Maika’i Tubbs. Also opening was an exhibition featuring the work of St. Catharines artist Ernest Harris Jr., which responds to the ongoing exhibition Up Close and in Motion. Both new exhibitions are on display until Sept. 2.
