First-year Brock Recreation and Leisure Studies (RECL) students participated in a recent tour of the Town of Pelham’s Meridian Community Centre. The tour was one of four local trips the department hosted for students this term, including visits to local recreation and sport facilities where students gain first-hand knowledge of supports staff provide to the community. In addition to the Meridian Community Centre, students have toured the Niagara-on-the-Lake Community Centre and pickle ball courts, Canada Games Park and the City of Welland’s Empire Sports Park and International Flatwater Centre. RECL students also took part in a number of overnight field experiences this fall. From a weekend of facilitating leadership and team building programs to paddling and hiking, the trips provided opportunities for students to build community, develop friendships and put their skills into action.
