Each spring in Whitefish Falls, near Manitoulin Island, the Faculty of Mathematics and Science runs a 10-day field camp for Earth Science and Environmental Geoscience majors, where students apply classroom learning to a field situation. A main outcome of the course is the production of geologic maps that record the geology and geological structure of the map areas. It also teaches skills that are required for many jobs in industry and in government. This week the students had a visit from Brock University Chancellor Shirley Cheechoo, who is Artistic Director at the nearby Weengushk Film Institute for indigenous youth. Cheechoo is seen centre-right beside Earth Sciences Professor Frank Fueten, and just down from Assistant Professor Nigel Blamey, second from the left.
