The Arthur Schmon Tower is a visible presence in Niagara, even at 2500 feet above St. Catharines, Ont. Many planes fly over Brock on a daily basis, including those operated by Civil Air Rescue Emergency Services (CARES) Niagara, who were out training Saturday. "It was a great day for flying," says CARES Niagara, Unit Director Claire Summers. The Schmon Tower is often used by pilots as a landmark on the landing approach to the Niagara District Airport. Even at night, it is well light and because of its height above the Escarpment it is very distinguishable in many different types of weather, explains Summers. "Over the past 14 years, not only have I seen the Brock University campus change from season to season, but I've watched from an aerial perspective, it grow and expand with the construction of new buildings," says Summers.
