First-year Brock GAME student Maria Saghatelyan tests a ghost model in Unity during the Centre for Digital Humanities’ Spooky Shape Game Jam. The event was a spook-tacular success, with 44 students competing across 16 teams to create working video games on Oct. 28 and 29. The popular event is open to all Brock students regardless of their program, year or game experience. Each game incorporated a randomly assigned Halloween-themed shape. Time limits to prevent ‘crunching’ meant that teams couldn’t work on their games all night, although dedicated students showed up as early as 8 a.m. on Saturday morning to resume programming. Nine senior student volunteers were on hand to help teams troubleshoot problems. Guest judges Agusia Krzywinska from Adjective Noun Studios, Shane McCafferty of Rocketship Park and Justin Howe of CG Spectrum reviewed all the games Saturday afternoon before announcing two winning teams.
