Christie Hoeksema, left, was one of a dozen participants in a new drawing class held at Rodman Hall Art Centre in collaboration with the American Sign Language (ASL) Community of Niagara. The class was taught in sign language by Toronto Iranian artist Maryam Hafizi, who is deaf. A graduate of the Isfahan University of Fine Arts in Isfahan, Iran, Hafizi’s award-winning work has been shown internationally. The art classes have been part of a pilot project in making art at Rodman Hall more accessible, says Rodman Hall’s Interim Grants and Programming Officer Elizabeth Chitty.
