Painting for a cure

Caitlyn Mak (BSc '22) and Jessica Tomassi brought some colour to the Mackenzie Chown Complex hallway Thursday, March 2 — all in the name of cancer research. The pair were selling paintings as part of a Brock Relay for Life fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society. Mak, a Medical Sciences graduate who will be returning for Brock’s Nursing program this spring, spent the past year creating the paintings, which will also be sold Friday, March 3 in the Union Station food court. The student group has raised more than $11,300 for cancer research this year, says Tomassi, a third-year Concurrent Education student in English and Social Studies. To help reach its $23,000 goal, the Relay for Life group will hold a fundraising event Friday, March 10 at 7 p.m., which will include food, entertainment and music. Relay teams can sign up at their Mackenzie Chown table on Monday, March 6 or register through the group’s website.
