Visual Arts Professor Amy Friend shared how she made experiential learning a core part of her course Photography for Non-Majors. Through field trips to a number of galleries, students created portraits using a wide variety of image-making technologies, including wet-plate collodion and UV light. Friend was presenting as part of the annual Humanities Research Institute’s fall symposium on the theme of “Contemporary Currents.” Forty faculty and staff from the Faculty of Humanities gathered in Dr. Charles A. Sankey Chamber to hear colleagues present on current research projects. Organized by Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies Keri Cronin, the symposium featured diverse presentations by faculty from History, Canadian Studies, English, Visual Arts, Philosophy, Dramatic Arts and Digital Humanities. Topics included experiential learning projects, digital collaborations, data visualization, manuscript research and community collaborations.
