Laura Secord Secondary School French students Mary-Maria Bourdeau, Nikita Fitzgerald, Alison Kocsis and Sophie Hough celebrate winning a prize for their French language skills. More than 70 high school students from 16 high schools came to Brock on Wednesday, Oct. 16 for the annual Brock-Niagara French Contest. The contest, which Brock has hosted for more than 30 years, took a new format this year. Students took part in situational activities in different areas of campus, such as returning a book at the campus store, talking about a roommate in residence, or finding resources in the library, all in French. Students also participated in workshops led by Brock faculty that taught them more about Francophone cultures and the benefits studying French can bring. The annual event is a collaboration between Brock’s Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures and Niagara high school French teachers.
