Community discussion challenges discrimination, uplifts voices

Brock's Human Rights and Equity (HRE) Office brought the campus and Niagara communities together to celebrate women's stories with a film screening and panel discussion on Monday, March 10. The day of programming first welcomed Amanda Parris (centre), the award-winning host of CBC’s For the Culture, to the First Ontario Performing Arts Centre before returning to the University’s Pond Inlet for a wellness brunch. Panelists unpacked themes explored in two of the show’s episodes: Questioning why Black children fall through the cracks in various public education systems and the standard of care necessary for Black birthing people to feel safe in childbirth. The discussion was moderated by HRE Director Melissa Wilson (left) and Child and Youth Studies PhD Candidate and instructor in the Department of Sport Management Nwakerendu (Kay) Waboso (right).
