On Wednesday, Aug. 14, Brock University Chancellor Shirley Cheechoo was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Anishinabek Nation 7th Generation Charity. The award, presented by Chief Scott McLeod of Nipissing First Nation, recognizes Anishinaabe citizens for their lifetime commitment to improving the quality of life on First Nations through a variety of avenues, such as volunteerism, political service, language preservation, health services, social services, personal achievement, cultural practice and military service. The award also recognizes survivors of residential schools. Cheechoo, an Indigenous academic leader and award-winning artist, received the award at the charity's 21st annual Evening of Excellence.
