Building local kids’ STEM skills

Brock University’s Let’s Talk Science program has returned for the 2023-24 school year. The free educational and skills development program engages children and youth in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). More than 45 elementary and high school visits are planned for the fall semester, reaching an anticipated 1,000 students. In this photo, Brock University Lab Links Co-ordinator Alysha Johnson demonstrates an activity investigating how light can be transmitted, reflected or refracted to Grade 4 Dalewood French Immersion Public School student Clark Standish on Tuesday, Oct. 3. The activity is part of the “Bright Lights, Big Science” workshop, one of more than a dozen hands-on topics community and classroom groups can choose from when requesting a Let’s Talk Science visit.
