Bob and Barbara Brown (front row, second and third from right), of Sumter, S.C., visited Brock’s campus on Thursday, Sept. 28, to catch up with some of the many students and staff he's worked with over the past six years through the University's Alternative Reading Week program. Through the program, members of the Brock community annually travel to Sumter to volunteer their time with building homes with Habitat for Humanity. Bob worked and volunteered as a construction director and builder with the organization and is affectionately known to the many Brock students who have worked alongside him as 'Bob the Builder.' The Browns made the trip to Brock as part of their vacation in Niagara Falls and presented the University's Alternative Reading Week staff and students with a painting. The message that accompanied the painting reads as follows: “This artwork, by Carole Carberry, represents Swan Lake Iris Gardens of Sumter, South Carolina. It is hereby presented to Brock University's Alternative Reading Week staff in honour of and with deep appreciation for the many wonderful, dedicated students and supervisors who have given of themselves to help build decent, affordable homes for families in Sumter, South Carolina. Your service and your students will be forever in our hearts."
