Alumni Field has been complete for almost 11 months and this high-quality venue has been used heavily since the field’s official opening ceremony took place on Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 during last year’s Homecoming Weekend. A crew from Civil Air Rescue Emergency Services (CARES) Niagara were in the skies again last week and shared the view they regularly see from above. “The Badger’s logo and field markings are very visible even at 1,500 feet above the Brock campus,” says CARES Niagara, Chief Navigator Claire Summers. "While the Schmon Tower is used by our pilot’s as a landmark on the landing approach to the Niagara District Airport, it is always interesting to see what might be happening on the playing fields at Brock." Back on the ground, Head Coach of the Men’s Rugby Team and Kinesiology Professor Phillip Sullivan says the turf field has been a great addition the Brock’s rugby program. “The opportunity to train and play on grass and turf allows us to train in a more competitive and flexible way. It also lengthens our training season because we can train on the turf in the off-season and not have to worry about damaging the grass. Last year about 80 per cent of our training to go to the Canadian University 7s Rugby Championship happened on the Alumni field,” says Sullivan.
