Just ahead of Speech and Hearing Month in May, fourth-year Speech Language and Hearing Sciences student Kelsey Cere showed high school students how to transcribe their names using International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols during an Applied Linguistics session as part of Brock's Social Sciences Day on April 24. The Faculty of Social Sciences hosted about 200 high school students from the Niagara region and beyond, providing them with opportunities to learn about career paths stemming from the Labour Studies, Geography and Tourism Studies, Economics, Political Science, Forensic Psychology and Criminal Justice, Child and Youth Studies, Sociology and Critical Criminology, Applied Linguistics, Psychology, and Communication, Popular Culture and Film programs. Cere’s nametag shows her own name spelled phonetically, Kel-si, as an example for students.
