A mile in her shoes

Applied Health Sciences PhD student Asha Edwin added her running shoes and marathon medals to her "Body is Home" exhibit in the Brock University Library's Matheson Learning Commons. Edwin’s research focuses on Black women’s wellness and movement, particularly within community-based contexts. The exhibit, created in partnership with Hill Studio Wellness, Hill Run Club and the IDEAS Research Lab led by Associate Professor of Health Sciences and Sport Management Janelle Joseph, explores Black women’s experiences of movement, community and wellness through marathon training in Toronto. Reflecting the Lab’s commitment to indigeneity, diaspora, equity and anti-racism in sport culture, the exhibit challenges dominant narratives about Black women’s bodies and celebrates wellness and belonging through community and motion.
