Niagara high school students stepped back in time during a recent visit to Brock. Hosted by the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies (MARS), 40 students took part in a day of engaging workshops and presentations, including a visit to Brock Library’s Archives and Special Collections. Guided by PhD in Interdisciplinary Humanities student Elizabeth Colantoni (right), high school student Ivan Mykhailiuk (left) tried his hand at bookmaking in a workshop led by Renée-Claude Breitenstein, MARS Director and Associate Professor of French. The interactive workshop encouraged students to think about communication and media in the age of print and explore the historical purpose of almanacs, calendars that listed saints, important dates, religious celebrations, positions of the planets and cycles of the moon, among other things.
