Help shape the future of academic integrity at Brock

The Brock University community is invited to help shape the future of academic integrity on campus.

With the University’s Academic Integrity Policy up for review in the Winter Term, the Academic Integrity Survey is a way for students, faculty and staff to share valuable insights into what’s working well with the policy and identify any challenges that may currently exist.

“We’re hoping to get a breadth of feedback because people interact with the policy in different ways and in different spaces,” says Natalie Patterson, Associate Director of Educational Development. “This review will help us to ensure the academic integrity policy is responsive to the evolving realities of post-secondary teaching and learning.”

Feedback gathered through the survey will help inform the policy, which provides members of the University community general guidelines of appropriate academic behaviours and identifies prohibited academic conduct.  Responses will also be used to identify opportunities to strengthen institutional supports, resources and practices.

Led by the Academic Integrity Office, the survey is part of a larger effort by the Centre for Pedagogical Innovation to strengthen the culture of academic integrity on campus, which also included the hiring of an Academic Integrity Strategist and a focus on greater collaboration with University partners.

“I see my role as an opportunity to strengthen a culture of integrity that empowers our entire university community to uphold the values at the heart of academic excellence,” says Rakha Zabin, Academic Integrity Strategist. “I’m excited to contribute to the strategic development of academic integrity at Brock and to help foster a culture where integrity is embedded in our academic practices, grounded in shared values and supported through collaboration, education and a commitment to fairness.”

CPI has partnered with other departments – including Learning Services and the Office of the Student Ombuds – to plan events for students, faculty and staff throughout Academic Integrity Week, which takes place Oct. 19 to 23. To see the full list of events and workshops planned for the week, visit the Academic Integrity Office website.

The survey will remain open until Monday, Oct. 26. The update to the Academic Integrity Policy is expected to be complete by next Spring.
