Brock University is mourning the passing of Jennifer Guarasci (BA ’98), Chief Human Resources Officer and Associate Vice-President of People and Culture, who passed away on Friday, Sept. 25.

A Brock graduate who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Politics in 1998, Guarasci returned to the University community more than 16 years ago to join the human resources team. Over the past 14 years, she held a series of increasingly senior roles.

“Jennifer was an exceptional leader who put people first. She had deep respect for the expertise and perspectives of those around her and always took the time to recognize and celebrate those strengths,” says Vice-President, Administration and Services Scott Johnstone.

Beyond Brock, Guarasci contributed to the Niagara region and the wider human resources profession. She served as an active board member with the Niagara Workforce Planning Board and was a member of Project SHARE. A strong believer in lifelong learning, she recently earned a Master of Arts in Leadership.

“As both a Brock graduate and a member of the leadership team, Jennifer genuinely cared about this University and the people who make it such a special place,” says Lesley Rigg, President and Vice-Chancellor. “Her guidance helped shape our workplace culture and strengthen relationships across our campus and throughout the community.”

Family stood at the centre of everything for Guarasci. Whether travelling, attending soccer games and dance practices, or gatherings with friends and family for celebrations, she prioritized spending time with those she loved. With her husband Jeff and children Patrick and Leah, both Brock students, she created a home filled with support and joy.

“Jennifer’s energy, positivity and sincere care for others was inspiring,” says Amanda Villella, Acting Chief Human Resources Officer and Associate Vice-President of People and Culture. “She was a thoughtful friend and colleague whose inclusive approach helped others feel heard and valued. Her absence will be deeply felt.”

Flags will be lowered to half-mast on Friday, Oct. 2 at Brock’s main campus in Guarasci’s memory. A visitation will be held at Patterson Funeral Home, 6062 Main St. in Niagara Falls, on Saturday, Oct. 3 from noon to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
