Held on Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6, Welcome Weekend will include a variety of activities meant to help students and their families get acquainted with campus.Brock University is calling on the campus community to help offer a warm welcome to students and their families this September.
Volunteers are needed for Brock’s inaugural Welcome Weekend — two days of activities that expand on the University’s annual residence move-in and build on the excitement of Welcome Week.
Taking place Saturday, Sept. 5 and Sunday, Sept. 6, Welcome Weekend will help students and their families get acquainted with campus while enjoying live music, food trucks and lawn games and engaging with their peers, faculty, staff and alumni. The event will welcome the more than 2,700 students moving into Brock’s residences as well as all new and returning students and their families.
“Starting university is an important milestone, and a welcoming community will make all the difference,” said Brad Clarke, Associate Vice-President, Students. “Welcome Weekend showcases the best of Brock by bringing people together to help our newest Badgers and their families feel connected, supported and proud to be part of the Brock community from day one.”
Volunteers are needed from across the Brock community to create a friendly, energetic and supportive first experience for students and their families.
Volunteers can:
- Support students as they move into residence, unloading and delivering belongings to residence rooms (must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs). Three shifts are available on Saturday and Sunday: 7:15 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Help create a lively and welcoming atmosphere in Jubilee Court on Saturday and Sunday by supporting live music acts and food truck vendors, facilitating lawn games and greeting students and their families. Various shifts available.
A meal voucher will be provided for every three hours of volunteering.
To volunteer, please complete the Welcome Weekend volunteer form by Wednesday, Aug.12. To host a Welcome Weekend event, email Kristen Smith at [email protected] to confirm your department’s interest and activity.
Volunteers are also asked to join colleagues and student leaders from across the University for an event held Thursday, Sept. 3 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in Market Hall to kick off Welcome Weekend and Welcome Week and prepare volunteers to welcome Badgers to campus.
Full lists of Welcome Weekend and Welcome Week events are available on ExperienceBU. More events will be added in the coming weeks.
