Orientation events to give new Badgers a strong Brock start

Brock University’s newest Badgers will have a chance to learn more about campus life next week during a series of Smart Start and BEGIN@Brock orientation events.

Led by a team of highly trained current students, the University’s long-running Smart Start academic orientation program aims to answer common questions and help incoming students connect with the Brock community.

Throughout the day, participants will have their course registration reviewed, meet other new students in their Faculty, tour Brock’s campus and residences, and enjoy a barbecue lunch in Jubilee Court. They will also have opportunities to learn about tuition, how to apply for financial aid, how to use their Brock Card and how to access academic success supports.

Students are encouraged to attend their Faculty-specific day to engage with future classmates, professors, academic advisors and other support staff:

  • Faculty of Education — Tuesday, July 14
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Science — Thursday, July 16
  • Faculty of Social Sciences — Friday, July 17
  • Faculty of Applied Health Sciences — Tuesday, July 21
  • Faculty of Humanities — Thursday, July 23
  • Goodman School of Business — Friday, July 24

The program costs $65 for incoming students. Students are welcome to bring up to two guests at a cost of $20 per person to cover lunch. Registration details and schedules for each Faculty’s Smart Start day can be found on brocku.ca/start

Following each Smart Start day, the University offers two immersive evening orientation experiences: BEGIN@Brock and the Campfire Social.

During the Campfire Social, students will have the opportunity to enjoy a meal with new friends.

BEGIN@Brock participants will stay in a Brock residence overnight after the Campfire Social. The following day, they will engage in interactive workshops and explore downtown St. Catharines. The program aims to help incoming students create campus connections, build confidence, develop essential skills and explore resources at Brock and beyond.

Registration for BEGIN@Brock and the Campfire Social is limited to incoming students. The registration fee for the overnight stay, including the Campfire Social, is $170. Those interested in attending only the Campfire Social can register for $25.

Smart Start participants will have the option of adding BEGIN@Brock or the Campfire Social to their Smart Start registration for a full day of orientation experiences, but students not participating on Smart Start are also welcome to attend the Campfire Social or BEGIN@Brock.

Visit brocku.ca/orientation/beginbrock for registration details and schedules.

Student who cannot attend Smart Start or BEGIN@Brock are encouraged to keep an eye on their email for information about alternate options later in the summer.
