Thesis defences — June 1 to June 5

The following is a list of thesis defences taking place between Monday, June 1 and Friday, June 5.

Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences (Health Sciences) thesis defences

Michael Iantomasi, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Carnosic Acid Mitigates Palmitate-Induced Macrophage Inflammation and Improves Insulin Signaling in Skeletal Muscle Cells” on Monday, June 1 from 9 a.m. to noon in STH 361.

Amanda Flint, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Cost-effectiveness Analysis of a Quality Improvement Program for Reducing the Inappropriate Urine Cultures Among Patients with Suspected Urinary Tract Infection in a Community Hospital Emergency Department” on Wednesday, June 3  from 2 to 5 p.m. in STH 361.

Graeme Kingswood, a Master of Science in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “Connections to the Transcendent and Psychosomatic Health: a Cross-sectional Analysis of the 2017/18 Canadian Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) Study” on Friday, June 5 from 9 a.m. to noon in STH 361.

Master of  Arts in Applied Health Sciences (Sport Management) thesis defence

Alan Kim, a Master of ​Arts in Applied Health Sciences candidate, will defend the thesis “A Critical Analysis of Gender-Based Violence Training Sessions for University Men’s Team Sport” on Monday, June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

PhD in Chemistry thesis defence

Temitayo Laleye, a PhD in Chemistry candidate, will defend the thesis “Synthesis of a Homologous Series of Bolaphosphatidylcholines: Influence of Chain Length and Rigidity on Self-Assembly and Model Phospholipid Membrane Structure” on Monday, June 1 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in PLZ 600F.

Master of Science in Computer Science thesis defence  

Atieh Sarvi, a Master of Science candidate, will defend the thesis “Network-Based Gene Prioritization for Major Depressive Disorder Using Integrated Biological Data” on Tuesday, June 2 from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. in MCH 313.

Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies thesis defence

Kirsten MacAulay, a Master of Arts in Child and Youth Studies candidate, will defend the thesis “A Qualitative Inquiry into the Lived Experiences of Canadian Youth Living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome” on Friday, June 5 from 1 to 3 p.m. in PLZ 600F.
