Asbestos reassessment scheduled for June

Brock University will soon begin its annual asbestos reassessment.

The yearly reassessment is a requirement under Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Brock’s Health, Safety and Wellness (HSW) team, in collaboration with environmental consultants from Pinchin Ltd., will conduct visual inspections of previously identified asbestos materials at the University’s main campus. This year’s assessments will take place from Wednesday, June 3 to Tuesday, June 23, during regular business hours.

As part of the process, the team will carefully inspect designated areas and, in some cases, may collect samples while following strict established safety protocols.

The Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts is not included in these assessments as asbestos abatement was conducted during previous renovations.

For questions about the reassessment, including any concerns regarding equipment, materials or access, please contact the HSW team at [email protected] or Elizabeth Todd, Environmental Health and Safety Specialist, at [email protected]

Additional information about Brock’s asbestos management practices can be found in the Environmental Safety section of the Health, Safety and Wellness Toolbox on SharePoint.
