Prime Minister Mark Carney delivered a video address to Canadians on Sunday, April 19, with a key portion of his speech dedicated to the history of Maj.-Gen. Sir Isaac Brock, whom Brock University is named after.

Referencing a small figurine that he keeps in the Prime Minister’s office, Carney detailed Maj.-Gen. Brock’s efforts in the War of 1812 alongside Indigenous leader Tecumseh.

“This statue of General Brock that I see every morning in the Prime Minister’s office reminds me that when we are united as Canadians, we can withstand anything,” he said in the video.
