Sport Management student remembered for kindness, love of sport

The Brock University community is mourning the loss of third-year Sport Management student Sam Plourde, who passed away Feb. 25 at the age of 20.

An avid sports fan and longtime hockey and baseball player, Sam was described by his family as the “ultimate teammate,” fostering a sense of belonging in the teams and communities he was part of.

Known for his warmth, humour and love of sport, Sam left an indelible impression on his instructors.

He is remembered by faculty as a thoughtful and kind presence whose love of baseball shaped how he approached his studies at Brock.

“Sam was a quiet and kind young man who had a passion for baseball that he shared through thoughtful reflection assignments,” said Shannon Kerwin, Graduate Program Director and Professor in the Department of Sport Management. “In our few interactions, he inspired me to think about my course content in unique ways. My sincere condolences to his family and all the lives he has touched.”

Chair and Associate Professor of Sport Management Brad Millington said the department “extends its heartfelt condolences to Sam’s family, friends and classmates during this difficult time.”

Brock University’s flags will be lowered to half-mast on Friday, March 13 in Sam’s honour.

Mental health and counselling services are available through the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre.
